On April 29, Del. Michelle Maldonado marched and spoke at Child Abuse Awareness Day in Richmond, VA. It was the seventh annual such event, and was well attended by community members who came out to support children and survivors.
The march was hosted by the nonprofit organization Hear Our Voices, which has a mission to empower young people to become agents of change within their communities. The organization’s founder, 15-year-old Elijah Lee, organized his first annual child abuse awareness march at the age of ten.
Del. Maldonado thanked Lee for inviting her to speak at the event, and added: “As a survivor and thriver after childhood abuse, I was honored to join with fellow Delegates Betsy Carr and Angelia Williams Graves, advocates, and community members to elevate awareness and share resources.”
