On May 16, Del. Michelle Maldonado helped celebrate the opening of Northern Virginia’s first Critical Illness Recovery Hospital (CIRH). A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the planned opening of a 32-bed facility in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, which will serve patients requiring extended stay care (non-acute) with specialized clinical attention.
The new hospital provides crucial services to Northern Virginia, as a 2022 statement from Select Medical Corporation and Inova Health System notes: “Prior to the establishment of this facility, patients across our region requiring this level of care were required to travel to DC or other parts of Virginia to access services.”
Del. Maldonado lauded the development, calling the hospital “a necessary and highly needed ‘first’ in our area.” She attended the ceremony with multiple legislators and community members from around the region.
